I devoted my most recent blog entry to the most important question I believe anyone should ask himself, and that is: Are You Awake?
As I shared, many years ago I was living in a dream. This dream caused me to doubt the existence of God. It caused me to focus on my daily reality and circumstances, bringing me much distress. This dream caused me to believe the lie that “you only live once” and then die, so I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.
It wasn’t until the day that God woke me up from this dream that I realized there is something so much better; there is the reality of a living God! I realized – as did Jacob – that God is in this place and I did not know it.
But something else happened once I “woke up”; it was not just the astounding revelation of God’s existence that amazed me, but also the understanding that His Word is a living Word. I had always viewed God’s Word, the Bible, as a boring book full of old stories from the past and full of rules that bound me to live a life that I was not interested in living.
Yet, as I started reading, reflecting, and meditating upon His Word, I discovered a world, which I regretted missing for so many years of my life. Suddenly, the Word became alive! Those stories of old made much sense of the present, but also pointed to what would be in the future. It was through the revelation of God’s existence, that my view of His Word changed as I understood that I am now under the “law of liberty” (James 1:25), meaning I am free to live my life God’s way.
When I received my first complete Bible in Hebrew, I received it with an amazing dedication, which sums up the richness of God’s Word. I would like to share with you:
“Moran,
There is treasure beyond your imaginings in God’s word – wisdom, knowledge, encouragement, comfort, truth, and God himself. His nature, His character, His desires, His plans, His law, His justice, His grace, and His love, all abound in these pages. Bind them in your heart and mind. Seek Him only and He will reveal Himself to you. Love Him with all your being. He will never leave you or forsake you. He will be with you for as long as time itself.
“Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth”
I Chronicles 16:11-13”
In closing, I would like to challenge you with the question, “Are you awake to God’s existence and the beauty of His Word?”
I would also like to invite you once again to join me in reading the Bible through one year, beginning January 1st. You will find treasures beyond your imagination.
Shabbat Shalom,
Moran
