Helping Families in Kibbutz Nahal Oz Feel Safe Again
On October 7, 2023, families in Kibbutz Nahal Oz found themselves trapped inside their own homes as Hamas terrorists invaded their community. Parents sheltered with their children in safe rooms, hoping the doors separating them from the terrorists would hold. For many, those doors were never designed to withstand gunfire, forced entry, or smoke. The events of that day left deep scars, and for many families, the sense of security they once had in their own homes was shattered.
In the early days following the attack, Moran, founder of Hope for Israel, met with the leadership of Kibbutz Nahal Oz to understand the community's most pressing needs and what would help families feel safe enough to return to their homes. Their response was clear. One of their greatest concerns was the vulnerability of their safe rooms. They explained the urgent need for stronger, reinforced doors and asked whether Hope for Israel could help provide them. Operation: Doors of Hope was born out of that conversation and a commitment to respond to the community's needs.
Through this initiative, Hope for Israel has committed to providing 253 reinforced security doors specifically designed for the safe rooms in homes throughout Kibbutz Nahal Oz. These specially designed doors are bulletproof, fireproof, and smoke-sealed. They can also be securely locked from the inside, preventing anyone from opening them from the outside. These features provide families with a significantly greater level of protection should another attack occur.
For those who spent hours hiding in fear on October 7, knowing that their safe rooms now have doors specifically designed to protect them against such threats can make a profound difference. While no door can erase the trauma of that day, these reinforced doors can help families regain a measure of security and peace of mind as they rebuild their lives.
201 Doors Funded. Only 52 Remaining!
Through the generosity of our partners, 201 of the 253 reinforced safe room doors have now been funded! This important milestone brings us closer to fulfilling our commitment to the families of Nahal Oz.
Each reinforced safe room door costs $4,000, and 52 doors still need to be funded to complete the project.
$4,000 per door | $208,000 remaining
One resident shared what having these new doors means to their family:
“After the helplessness and fear we experienced while confined for long hours, knowing these doors now protect us from gunfire and forced entry brings a profound sense of security - something that was painfully absent that day.”
Operation: Doors of Hope is part of Hope for Israel's broader emergency relief initiative, Operation Restoration, through which we provide practical assistance and support to Israelis whose lives have been devastated by war. Our desire is to stand alongside those who are suffering, offering tangible expressions of God's love and comfort as they work to rebuild their lives and communities.
On October 7, families in Nahal Oz discovered how vulnerable they were, even inside the rooms meant to protect them. We cannot change what happened that day, but we can help ensure that the safe rooms they depend on today offer far greater protection.
It is an honor and privilege to stand alongside the families of Kibbutz Nahal Oz as they rebuild their lives. Providing these reinforced safe room doors is a tangible expression of love, compassion, and solidarity with a community that has endured so much. Every contribution, regardless of its size, helps provide greater protection for these families.
Join us in bringing greater protection and renewed hope to the families of Nahal Oz.
