I devoted my last blog entry to God’s call on Abraham and Moses. In short summary, God called Abraham (Abram) to leave everything that he knew and to follow God’s leading to a foreign place that God would show him; the result of Abraham’s faith would be a great physical and spiritual blessing. Likewise, God called Moses to lead the Children of Israel out of slavery in Egypt to a land flowing with milk and honey. Once again, it would require a great amount of trust on Moses’ behalf in the midst of the great despair that the Children of Israel were in.
When looking at those two men, I can’t help but think about us, disciples of Yeshua the Promised Messiah. Some of us may be like Abraham; we received a call from the LORD and at that moment, we left everything familiar to follow Him. Others of us may be more like Moses; we may have needed some more “convincing” from God, but in the end, we made a decision to trust Him and answer His call.
Just like Abraham and Moses, we, His disciples (Jew and Gentile alike), are called to leave everything that we know – the sin of the flesh – and follow Him in faith in a life-long journey through deserts, valleys, mountains, and ultimately to the eternal inheritance of the Promised Land (eternity with the Father).
My brethren, we live in times of great uncertainty; when we look at the reality around us, with the growth of evil, violence, and chaos in the world, one may doubt the promises of God for a brighter future in the everlasting “Promised Land”.
Let me just encourage us to learn from those who were before us. We live in an incredible day and age where we see the faithfulness of God played out before our very eyes. The mere fact that we live in times in which we see one of the greatest miracles of modern history – the reestablishment of the Jewish state in the Land of Israel as our Prophets foretold – is nothing less than a great miracle! It means that our God is living and at work, just as He has been for thousands of years.
Let us draw closer to God, and follow His call in each of our lives. Just like He did to our Father Abraham, just like He did with Moses, so He does with us…
“And Yeshua came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
Yeshua called each of us to “Go”… I can tell you that He is trustworthy and faithful to fulfill His promises.
Shabbat Shalom,
