The Miracle of Israel’s Independence

“ACCORDINGLY WE, MEMBERS OF THE PEOPLE’S COUNCIL,
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF ERETZ-ISRAEL AND OF THE ZIONIST MOVEMENT, ARE HERE ASSEMBLED ON THE DAY OF THE TERMINATION OF THE BRITISH MANDATE OVER ERETZ-ISRAEL AND, BY VIRTUE OF OUR NATURAL AND HISTORIC RIGHT AND ON THE STRENGTH OF THE RESOLUTION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY, HEREBY DECLARE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A JEWISH STATE IN ERETZ-ISRAEL, TO BE KNOWN AS THE STATE OF ISRAEL.”

* Published in the Official Gazette, No. 1 of the 5th, Iyar, 5708 (14th May, 1948).

61 years have passed since this statement and the State of Israel is still here, and still fighting for its independence. Tonight at 20:00 (8:00PM) a siren will be heard throughout Israel and everything will stop. For the next 24 hours, the people of Israel will remember their fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and friends who died in the different Israeli wars and terror attacks. Since 1860, 22, 579 men and women have lost their lives defending this land and many others have been wounded. The reality here is that almost every person has been affected by the death of either a family member or friend as a result of war & terror.

Israel is here in spite of the desire of its enemy to “push it into the Sea ”. As we look at the different wars that Israel has fought, the reality today of Iran, Syria and the different terror organizations, one cannot help but wonder if there is any hope for Israel. As I wrote in my blog “Remember the Fallen” from a year ago, my hope for the people of Israel is found in God’s Words. One glorious day, the hearts and minds of the people of Israel will turn back to Him; on that day this words will come true: “I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people, the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more”. Isaiah 69:19

In my last blog entry, I encouraged the follower of the Messiah to show his faith through actions. It saddens me to hear some people who claim to be followers of the Messiah saying that there is no connection between the modern nation of Israel and the one spoken of in the Scriptures. How can one ignore the words,  “So then, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when people will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’ 8 but they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the descendants of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’ Then they will live in their own land.” Jer 23:7.

God Himself is the one who brought the children of Israel back to this land; He did so for His own namesake. He is the one who has been and will continue to keep Israel here, and it is my hope and prayer that those who claim to know Him will follow the fullness of the truth of His Word, and that the eyes who are yet to see Him will be open to the truth of His existence.

May we remember on this day those who have lost their lives defending this land; may we remember their families and may we look forward to the day of His return, when the sound of weeping will no longer be heard in Zion.

Until that day,

Moran

  1. I am amazed at seeing the IDF soldiers, both young & old, who serve with zeal and fervor at maintaining Israels Independence. Yet the independece is really a true dependence upon HaShem.

  2. Israel: we love you. millions in America pray for you daily! you have one more war to fight, the great final war. many of you will perish. but then, Messiah returns and obliterates your foes. you will then have 1,000 years of pure freedom and peace, followed by all of eternity to rest and enjoy G-d’s great paradise with your father Abraham! there is no nation like you on earth! this morning I will preach about Israel, the miracle of her existence. we will all think of you and praise our great G-d! G-d bless you all! Pastor Brown
