Promises from the Past… Hope for the Future

The promises from the past give us confidence for today, leading us towards great hope for the future!

In my last blog, Reaffirming the Covenant, I wrote, “One must understand the importance of the Land in God’s covenant with Abraham; there is an inextricable link between God’s promises to Abraham, his son Isaac, and the Land.” I also wrote, “The word of God is very clear about His promises. The fact is that God cannot renege on His promises… this would make Him a liar! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). There are many who claim to be followers of the God of Abraham who say that the Land of Israel today is not the fulfillment of the ancient prophecies and is in no way connected to the promises that God made to Abraham. That is tantamount to saying that God is not true to His promises!”

We are privileged to witness one of greatest miracles of modern history being fulfilled before our very eyes! What is that miracle? It is the return of the Jewish people back to the Land of Promise, the State of Israel.

The miracle of Israel reminds me that I, too, can be confident that the same God, who faithfully brought His children back to the Land, is the same God in whom I trust every day! The book of Hebrews refers to this great promise, and also reaffirms the incredible hope that is given to us for the future:

For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “I WILL SURELY BLESS YOU, AND I WILL SURELY MULTIPLY YOU.” And thus, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise. For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute. In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath, in order that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement, we who have fled for refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Yeshua has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 6:13-20

When one studies the history of the modern State of Israel, one will see that it was not because of the support of the USA, Europe, the UN, or anyone else that Israel exists today. It is not because of a very well trained army that Israel exists today, but rather the mighty hand of God, which has fulfilled the promises of old. This should be of great encouragement for us, as we learn that the promises of the past give us confidence for today, leading us towards great hope for the future.

In closing, let me encourage you to look at the Word of God as one complete work…the promises made in the Hebrew Scriptures are indeed the same ones fulfilled in the New Covenant. And there are many promises still yet to be fulfilled! Scriptures such as Hebrews 6:13-20 not only affirm this, but also reveal to us the great confidence that we have in our awesome God.

Shabbat Shalom,

Moran
