In Light of the Fire
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also… “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money… But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matt. 6:19-21,24,33
Israel is recovering from the biggest forest fire in its history: 42 people are dead, over 12,000 acres burned, and many homes were gone in just 82 hours. The pictures I’ve seen and the stories I’ve heard have made me think, “What are the important things in my life?” This fire mercilessly destroyed everything that stood in its way, people lost their lives in a heartbeat, and many lost everything they have worked for, everything that they have saved, their memories, etc.
As followers of the Messiah, we ought to have different priorities in our lives. As Yeshua taught so many years ago, we need to put the Kingdom of God first, because one day we will all stand before the Judge, and His fire will burn anything that is ungodly and will cleanse all the evil from this world.
As we continue with the series about God’s holiness, let us stop and reflect on the important things in our lives. Where do you store your treasures? Is there anything in your life that, if will be destroyed by earthly fire, will be more important than your relationship with your heavenly Father?
