As Passover approaches one of the things that we are doing in our home is cleaning it from all of the Chametz (leavened) things.
Cleaning the Chametz is to commemorate the fact the Jewish people had to leave Egypt in a hurry and did not have time to let their bread rise.
I believe that as followers of the Messiah the symbol of cleaning of the Chametz from our homes has a very important spiritual meaning.
Leaven symbolizes sin, and in the same way we are to clean it from our homes we are also to look at our lives and clean it from any impurities.
Shaul has said in 1Cor. 5:6 “Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?
1Cor. 5:7 Clean out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For the Messiah our Passover lamb also has been sacrificed. 1Cor. 5:8 Let us therefore celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. “
During this special time of the Celebration of Passover, where we remember not only the way that our God delivered the children of Israel by passing over the houses that were marked by the blood of the Lamb, but also remember the way God has delivered us, the Followers of Yeshua the promised Messiah of Israel and the world from the slavery of sin to freedom in Him.
Let us stop and take the time in the same way we take it to clean our houses to look at our lives, confess our sins and clean our spiritual house before our mighty God.
Happy Passover,
