God’s Word
“Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105
I love God; I love His Word, and I love it when I see the way the He brings things together in the way only He can. During the past few years, Dec 31st and January 1st have become very special days for me. It’s not so much because it’s the last day of the (Gregorian) year, but more because on Dec 31st, I finish my yearly reading of the Bible, and start over again on January 1st.
In my last blog entry, I challenged us with these words: “Let us shine His light in the way we live, as we become living Menorahs, so others will see Him and also desire His light for their own lives. ”
How can one know that he/she is walking in the light? How can we fulfill His call for our lives to be salt and light on this earth? The Word of God is our answer; it directs us, guides us, and gives us every tool we need for this life. King David knew the treasure of the Word, and wrote of it many times in the Psalms.
During the time that the wonderful verse in Psalm 119 was written, they did not have those amazing long-range LED flashlights! In fact, all that was available was a small oil lamp that fit in the palm of one’s hand, which gave just enough light to take one step at a time. That is an illustration for us today of how important it is to be in His Word daily; it sheds the light that we need in order to walk, step by step, in the light in the midst of this dark world.
Now, in order for us to know how to walk in the light, first and foremost, we have to know the source of the light, i.e. the Messiah. In order to get to know Him, to know His will, that which is pleasing and unpleasing to Him, and His plan for our lives, we need to read, know, and apply the fullness of His Word to our lives.
During the past few years, I have challenged my staff to join me in reading the Bible through in one year, and it is amazing to see what God has done in their lives! I was truly blessed to read the testimony of one of my staff members, which I would like to share with you:
“A joint reading of the Word in a year – A genius idea to persist with!
It is the second year that we are reading the whole Bible together through the year. I was trying to be short, but words cannot simply express and answer the question “How does reading the Word of God help me in my life?”
Reading the Word helps to better understand and clarify my views of the Bible as one book, and to not only rely on one verse or a single story here and there. It also helped me to see and understand that God is much greater than what I thought or knew before.
Today reading the Word has become a part of my daily life, and I am even adding more reading every day. I now find time to have an in-depth study of the Word of God and I know it was because of the challenge that Moran gave me two years ago with regard to reading the whole Bible in a year.
Reading the Word clarifies the character of God – I better understand how He thinks, how He loves and works, and therefore I am able to discern more and more whether something is from God or from the enemy. When I am seeking for general wisdom in my day-to-day life, I run to the Word. When I am seeking for hope, I declare God’s promises for me. When I want to get a deeper perspective, I go to His Word.
It is an amazing thing, but God Word is truly a light unto my path.
For the first time in my life, I see that these are not just nice slogans but a true way of life. The reading did not only help me in my walk with the Lord, but it became my daily walk in itself. I can’t do it without the Word of God… and if you were to ask me the same question two years ago you wouldn’t get the same answer. Amazing!”
My brothers and sisters, I would like to challenge each of you reading my blog to join me and the HFI team in reading the Bible through a year. Just like “T” from my staff who wrote this testimony, you will also discover the greatness of our amazing God.
Shabbat Shalom,
Moran

for me to read the bible in-a-year, how much do I read in one day to read all the bible in one year ?
You read from both the Old Testament and from the New Testament. The number of chapters depends on the book, but the amount is not too much. Hope that answers your question.
Please send me your one year bible reading plan as I would like to join you in this spiritual journey this year.
God’s Peace Jim
