Jerusalem’s Deadliest Weekend in a Decade

UPDATE: Over Shabbat, 7 Israelis were killed and 5 more wounded in two separate shooting attacks less than 24 hours apart. The first shooting was the deadliest attack Jerusalem has seen in a decade. Although both were “lone wolf” attacks, the terrorists’ access to guns could indicate a link to other terror groups. One terrorist was killed, and the second, only 13 years old, was severely injured.  Celebrations, including fireworks and handing out candy, took place throughout Gaza, Judea and Samaria, and East Jerusalem after the shootings.

The Israeli government responded swiftly and decisively. A piece of legislation which has been on the table for a few months passed its committee reading and will now be voted on by the Knesset plenum. The bill would authorize the Israeli government to rescind the citizenship of “pay-for-slay” Palestinian terrorists who receive monetary compensation from the Palestinian Authority for the murder of Israeli civilians and soldiers. Additionally, the IDF arrested over 40 suspects across Judea and Samaria following the attacks.

Please pray for healing for the wounded. Please pray for comfort for those who lost loved ones. Lastly, please pray for wisdom for Israeli leaders and military personnel in executing justice.
