בשורה שמשנה את חיינו

הראשונה אל טימותאוס א’ 3-11:

בפסוקים 3-4 שאול מזכיר לטימותאוס מהי הסיבה שעבורה הוא השאיר אותו באפסוס: למנוע מאנשים להפיץ תורות אחרות אשר מסיתות אותם מהעיקר של הבשורה שהוא אמונה. מדבריו של שאול אנחנו מבינים שבאפסוס היו כאלו שבמקום להתמקד בתכנית האלוהים בחרו להתמקד באגדות וסיפורים שהפרי שלהם היה ויכוחים וריבים שלא בנו את הקהילה. עוד בספר מעשי השליחים פרק כ’ בפסוקים 29-31 אנחנו קוראים את אזהרתו של שאול אל קהילת אפסוס מפני מורי שקר שינסו להסיט אותם מן האמת.

בפסוק 5 כתוב:”תכליתה של המצווה הזו…”, לאיזו מצווה מתכוון שאול? שאול מתכוון למצווה שציין בפסוק 3 שאוסרת על לימוד תורה אחרת. הוא בא ומסביר שקיום מצווה זו מביאה לידי אהבה הנובעת מלב טהור,מצפון ישר ומאמונה אמיתית. אלו הבוחרים שלא לקיים מצווה זו ומלמדים תורות שקר כדי לזכות במעמד של מורי תורה לא יזכו לפרות אלו בחייהם ויתרה מזו. לאחר שאנחנו קוראים את הפסוקים האלו אנחנו מבינים שקיים הבדל בין ידיעה להבנה. אותם מורי שקר ידעו הרבה ואף לימדו אך הם לא הבינו את מה שלימדו. ההבנה צריכה להביא לידי שינוי בחיינו לכן עלינו לשאול את עצמנו האם אנחנו רק יודעים את דבר הבשורה או האם אנחנו באמת מבינים אותה והיא משנה את חיינו? באגרת יעקב פרק ב’ אנחנו קוראים שאמונה ללא מעשים גורלה למות. המעשים הם פרי אמונתנו והם מעניקים לה חיים. לכן חשוב שנחיה חיי אמונה שמעוררים אותנו לידי שינוי ועשייה ולא מותירים אותנו סטטיים. אנחנו יכולים לנהל אורך חיים שכזה רק מתוך הבנה אמיתית של הבשורה.

לסיום, עלינו תמיד לזכור שעיקר הבשורה יסודה באמונה ולכן עלינו להימנע מכל תורת שקר המובילה אותנו לידי עיסוק בטל בוויכוחים ופילוסופיות שאינן מחזקות את אמונתנו. לעתים הסחת הדעת תגיע מתוך אנשי הקהילה ולכן עלינו לבקש מאלוהים חכמה ואבחנה רוחנית. עלינו להימנע מלהסתפק במקום הנח של ידיעה על ישוע אלא לשאוף להבין את בשורת האדון ולתת לה להשפיע עלינו ולשנות את חיינו!

                        A Gospel that Increases Faith

1 Timothy 1:3-11

In verses 3–4 Paul reminds Timothy of the reason that he left him in Ephesus: to prevent the spreading of false teachings that diminish faith in the life of the believer. From the words of Paul it seems there were some who, rather than focusing on God’s plan, chose to teach meaningless “myths & endless genealogies” that didn’t edify the believers. In the book of Acts (chapter 20:29–31) we read that Paul had previously warned the Ephesians that there would come a time when false teachers would arise and try to turn them from the truth.

In verse 5 Paul writes: “The goal of this command….” To which command is he referring? Paul is referring to the command of not allowing false teaching to be taught. He then explains that following this command leads to love that comes out of a pure heart, and a good conscience and a sincere faith. There are some who, desiring to be teachers of the Scriptures, will do so even if it means teaching false doctrines. What Paul is addressing is the vast difference between knowing about something versus truly understanding.

Those false teachers knew a lot and even taught others but they themselves didn’t understand what they were talking about. Understanding necessarily leads to a change in our lives and that is why we must ask ourselves: do we only know the words of Scripture or do we truly understand the Word of God and experience a change in our life due to our understanding? In James chapter 2 we read that faith without works is dead. Works are an outcome of faith and produce an increase of faith. For this reason it is important that we live a life in which faith draws us ever closer to the heart of God. This kind of life is an outcome of truly understanding the gospel.

In conclusion, let us always remember that our faith must be rooted in the Gospel. That is why we must abandon all false doctrines that distract from the Gospel by causing arguments and filling our minds with all kind of philosophies that do not strengthen our faith. Sometimes distractions may come from within the congregation, for that reason we must ask God for His discernment and wisdom. Let us not get comfortable just knowing about Yeshua, but let us strive for a better understanding of the Gospel that leads to an increase of faith in our lives.
