Are You Ready to Suffer for His Namesake?-

Are You Ready to Suffer for His Namesake?

1 Peter 4:12-19

Yeshua is calling all of us to leave everything and follow Him, follow His example and be more like Him. In this passage we read of the path we are called to walk in and how we’re to walk in it.

In verses 12-13 Peter is making it clear that trials and tests are a part of the life of Yeshua’s disciples, and that as His disciples we’re to be ready for hardships and even suffering. Peter doesn’t say “if fiery trials try you…”, but “when fiery trials try you…”. In addition, Peter explains to us the way in which we should walk through those trials, he is calling us to rejoice. Our first reaction to suffering and hardships is not joy, but Peter is encouraging us to always think of the end when the glory of Yeshua will appear and we will take part in it if we follow His example here on earth.

In verse 14 Peter tells the disciples that if they are reproached for the name of Christ, they are blessed. True happiness comes from the fact that we are part of God’s kingdom. Let us always remember that if we suffer with Him we will also reign with Him. Our point of view concerning suffering must be different! We’re to look at the suffering we face now in comparison to the great glory we will have in the future.

The life we live now is momentary and we must understand that we are going to spend eternity with God. The real suffering is spending eternity far from God because we did not know Him nor did we listen to the words of His Son (2 Thessalonian 1:5-8).

In verse 15-18 we read a very important principle concerning suffering for Yeshua. Suffering for Yeshua is about bringing God the glory. Suffering is not suffering in general, but suffering because we want God to receive glory.

The question is, are you willing to suffer for the name of Yeshua? If we’re really willing to follow Yeshua, we must understand that part of following Him is suffering with Him as well as reigning with Him.

Are you willing to suffer for His namesake and rejoice with Him when He returns?
