This evening begins the week-long festival of Sukkot (Feast of Booths), one of the three Biblical pilgrimage festivals and the last holiday in the yearly cycle. During Sukkot, God commanded the Jewish people to spend seven days dwelling in booths, in remembrance of the time spent wandering in the desert before the entry into the Land of Israel. This time of year, booths are all over the place in Israel! During the coming week, people will eat, rest and even sleep in their sukkah.
This year, the main concern is the heightened security risk which led officials to post guards outside of every synagogue in Jerusalem during the holidays. Thank God that no terror attacks occurred during Rosh HaShana (Feast of Trumpets) or Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement) and let us pray that also Sukkot passes peacefully.
Please pray for peace and protection over the Land of Israel throughout Sukkot. Please pray for Israel to know her Messiah through this holiday.
