Israel recently increased its work permit quota for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip from 5,000 to 7,000. Many Palestinians want to work in Israel where the wages are higher than in Gaza. In Gaza, the unemployment rate is above 50% and the rate of poverty is quite high. Israel has been closed off to Palestinian workers from Gaza since the war between Israel and Hamas in May 2021. Fathi Abu Nur, a 40-year-old father of five from Gaza is quoted as saying, “There is no work in the Gaza Strip…I hope things will get better because the current situation is really difficult.” Please pray that the situation for civilians in Gaza will improve, especially for those who refuse to join terror factions in order to pay their bills. Please also pray that Israel will be able to offer viable incentives to Palestinians to keep them from participating in terrorist cells. Lastly, please pray that these work permits will help to ease the difficult situation of Gaza civilians.
