התחדשות

אל האפסים ד’ 17-24

 7 הנה זאת אני אומר ומכריז מטעם האדון: אל תלכו עוד כגוים ההולכים בהבלי שכלם. 18 חשוכי דעת הם, זרים לחיי אלהים בגלל בערותם וקשי לבם; 19 וכיון שהתנונו התמכרו בתאוה לזמה ולכל מעשה טמאה. 20 אבל אתם לא בדרך זאת למדתם את המשיח, 21 אם אמנם שמעתם אותו ולמדתם בו את האמת כפי שהיא בישוע – 22 שעליכם לפשט את האדם הישן אשר התנהגותכם הראשונה כרוכה עמו והוא נשחת בתאוות מתעות, 23 ולהתחדש התחדשות רוחנית בשכלכם, 24 וללבש את האדם החדש הנברא כדמות אלהים בצדקה וקדשה של אמת.

 בקטע הזה שאול קורא לנו לפשוט את האדון הישן שלנו ולהתחדש התחדשות רוחנית. אנחנו יכולים לשים לב שהתנהגותנו והלך רוחנו מושפעים רבות על ידי השכל. לגבי הגויים (הלא מאמינים) שאול אומר שהם מתהלכים, כלומר חיים, בשטויות ובדברים חסרי המשמעות שנמצאים בתוך השכל שלהם. לגבי המאמינים, אנחנו, הוא קורא לנו להתחדש התחדשות רוחנית- איפה? בשכלנו.

 שאול מפרט לנו את התהליך שעובר על כל אדם שבוחר להתהלך בהבלי הלב שלו. התהליך עצמו בנוי מארבעה שלבים:

 הראשון, קושי לב- האדם בוחר להקשות את הלב שלו לאלוהים, לומר “לא!” לרצונו ולהתהלך בדרכו שלו. אותו אדם מתעלם ממה שאלוהים אומר ומצווה ובוחר בחירות על פי ליבו הקשה.השלב השני הינו החשכה של הדעת- האדם בחר להקשות את ליבו וכעת הוא מתהלך בחשכה. בחושך הפנימי הזה אנחנו לא מצליחים לראות את תוכנית אלוהים בעבורנו ושם אנחנו מרגישים לבד וחסרי ישועה, החוסר ישועה מייאש מאוד, ושוחק.מתוך החושך אנחנו מגיעים למצב של חוסר הבנה והיא השלב השלישי. אנחנו לא מצליחים להבין מה קורה כאן ולאן אנחנו צועדים הלאה, איך חוזרים אחורה. המצב הזה של חוסר ההבנה מביא אותנו לחיפוש אחר דברים שימלא את הריק, אותו אנחנו חשים, ויתנו לנו ביטחון שנוכל להשען עליו. אותו הביטחון אינו עומד לאורך זמן וכאן אנחנו נכנסים לשלב הרביעי התהליך- התמכרות. אנחנו חוזרים פעם אחר פעם לאותם הדברים שאינם משביעים או מספקים אותנו ולאט לאט אנחנו תלויים בהם. הפריצות בחיינו, הטומאה והחטא מביאים עלינו חורבן או כמו ששאול מכנה את זה ניוון, כמו ניוון שרירים.

את המאפיינים האלו של חיינו בעבר קורא לנו שאול להסיר ולפשוט- את קשיחות הלב, את החושך, את חוסר ההבנה ואת הפריצות, ההתמכרות, הטומאה והחטא.

 הוא קורא לנו להתחדש בהתחדשות רוחנית בשכל שלנו. השאלה היא איך נתחדש בשכל?

אנחנו צריכים להכיר את מה שישוע לימד ומלמד אותנו. האמת צריכה להיות מנת חלקנו תמיד כפי שישוע אומר לנו ביוחנן ח’ 31,32- “ותדעו את האמת והאמת תשחרר אתכם” השכל שלנו יתחדש אם אנחנו נשקיע ונדע מה ישוע לימד אותנו. אם נכיר אותו יותר, נכיר את עצמנו יותר, ונבין מה הזהות שהוא נתן לנו בו. ככה נצליח להתחדש בשכל שלנו.כבר לא נתהלך ונחיה בצורה עולמית, טמאה וכבולה לחטא, אלא נתחיל להתהלך בגבורה ובאמת כי היא תשלוט בשכלנו וכבר לא יהיה לנו הבל בשכל, כהות, חוסר הבנה וחושך. לאחר שהשכל שלנו יתחדש- יהיה בו דפוס חשיבה חדש ורווי באמת- אנחנו נצליח לקום.נצליח ללבוש את האדם החדש ולקיים את אורך החיים אליו נקראנו במשיח. נצליח לגבור על חטא, לשרת את האדון ולהלל אותו בחיינו, לא להדמות לעולם הזה. נצליח כי היסוד בתוכנו השתנה, התחזק, התחדש.

שאול מאתגר אותנו, דרך האתגר לאפסים, לפשוט את האדם הישן בכל התאוות והשקר שממנו הוא מתקיים ולהתחדש בשכלנו על ידי האמת של המשיח ואז ללבוש אדם חדש, כלומר לחיות את חיינו באמת, דרך האמת בעבור המשיח.

Renewal

Ephesians 4:17-24

17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

 In this section Paul is calling us to take off our old self and renew ourselves in a spiritual renewal. We can see in this part that our attitudes and our actions are influenced a lot by our mind. Paul tells us that the gentiles (those who don’t believe in Yeshua) live foolishly and do meaningless things because their minds are filled with them.

He tells us, believers, that we are called to be renewed, where? In our minds.Paul shows us the process one goes through when he chooses to walk according to his own fleshly thoughts. The process has four stages:

The first- hardening one’s heart- when someone chooses to harden his heart toward God and say “no!” to His word and will and just walk as he pleases. The second stage is the darkness of the mind- one who chooses to harden his heart will start walking in the darkness not seeing God plan and feeling alone and helpless. Out of that darkness he comes into a place of misapprehension and that is the third stage.He doesn’t understand what is really going on and how should he go forward or get back to the place he “fell” from. This leads him to a place of trying to fill the void he feels inside with other things that normally don’t satisfy him and then he becomes addicted and indulges in impure things – This is the fourth stage.

Those things will bring destruction upon his life, or as Paul says in the Hebrew translation it causes his life to degenerate. Paul is calling us to take off those characteristics that we lived by in the past- the hardened heart, the darkness, the addiction, lust and sin.

He then calls us to the renewal of our mind. The question is how do we renew our minds?

We need to know what Yeshua said and taught in the past. The truth needs to become our portion just like Yeshua says in John 8:32- “and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. Our minds will be renewed as we invest in the truth and learn it. If we will know Him, we will know ourselves and we will understand our identity in Him. This is the way we will renew our minds.Once we do, we will no longer live a worldly, impure, sinning life but we will walk in power and the truth because it will take over our minds and we will no longer have a harden heart and dark mind.

After our minds will be renewed- they will have a different way of thinking and will be filled with the truth- we will be able to raise up. We will be able to wear the new man and live the life we are called to in Messiah. We will be able to overcome sin and serve God and worship Him while being different from this world. We will be able because the foundation in us has changed, got strengthen and renewed.

Paul is challenging us, through his challenge to the Ephesians, to take off our old self with its lust and the lie that consumes him and renew our minds in the truth of Messiah, wear the new man, meaning to live our lives in the truth and by the truth for Yeshua’s name.
