Ramadan Begins

Wednesday, March 22 signals the start of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting. Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar, which extends from one new moon to the next, about 30 days. During this period, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. After sunset, they gather for a festive family meal.

Historically, Ramadan brings increased tension between Palestinian Muslims and Israelis, including clashes between the IDF and Palestinian militants, riots and terrorist attacks. 15 Israelis have already lost their lives in terror attacks since the beginning of the calendar year in January, and the IDF is on high alert. Internal unrest and the provocative actions of Israel’s government have also increased the strain between the two groups, despite two consecutive summits in Egypt and Jordan intended to reduce violence.

Please pray for a peaceful and uneventful Ramadan, and for protection over Israeli civilians and security forces! Please pray for wisdom, self-restraint, and diplomacy for Israeli leaders as they navigate this challenging and stressful month. Lastly, please continue to pray for internal peace and unity in Israel.
