שלא יעבדו עליכם

אלוהים ברא את כל בני האדם עם רצון אישי וזכות בחירה חופשית. כפי שאלוהים העמיד את אדם וחווה בגן עדן עם היכולת לבחור בין שמיעה לדברו לבין סטייה ממנו, גם כיום הוא מעמיד את זכות הבחירה מולנו – לשמוע לדברו או לפנות ממנו בבורות מודעת.

המסר המרכזי של שאול באיגרת הראשונה אל טימותאוס תואם את המסר שישוע עצמו מסר לתלמידיו מספר פעמים בבשורות – היו ערים ועמדו על המשמר! שאול מתייחס לעניין של עמידה על המשמר בהקשר לאמת ולדבר הבשורה. באיגרתו אל טימותאוס הוא מציין כיצד על הקהילה באפסוס לשמור על דבר הבשורה היקר מכל פגיעה, עיוות והשחתה ולשמור על עצמם מכל היסח דעת אחר. הוא מדבר רבות על אנשים שיגיעו לתוך הקהילות וינסו להוליך שולל את המאמינים בכל מיני דיבורי סרק ,ואף מציין מספר דוגמאות לאנשים שכבר סטו מהאמת.

גם אנחנו בדומה לקהילה באפסוס נקראים לעמוד על המשמר בכל הנוגע לאמת ולדבר הבשורה. אנחנו נמצאים במלחמה יום יומית על נפשנו – על המחשבות, הרגשות והרצונות שלנו. בכל רגע נשלחים לעברנו מסרים מגוונים שנקלטים על ידינו בין אם במודע ובין אם שלא במודע. בעיקר בעידן בו אנו חיים כיום הפיתוי והסכנה גדולה אף יותר מבעבר ,שכן היום העולם נשלט ברובו בידי אמצעי התקשורת והמדיה. שאול הזהיר את הקהילה מהסכנות שיגיעו הן מתוך הקהילה והן מאנשים שנמצאים מחוץ לקהילה, בואו נתמקד באותם אמצעים או מתווכחים שמשפיעים עלינו, המאמינים, מבחוץ פנימה.

הרעיון שעומד מאחורי תקשורת הוא העברת מידע או מסר מסויים בין שני צדדים. בכל תקשורת יש את הצד שמעביר את המסר או הרעיון ואת הצד שמאזין וקולט את המסר. בין השניים יש את אותו מתווך שמעביר את המסר מקצה האחד לקצה השני. המתווך יכול להיות אמצעי חזותי (טלוויזיה, אינטרנט, ספר, כתב עת) ויכול להיות אמצעי שמיעתי (דיבור, רדיו, מוזיקה כו’). המתווך אחראי על העברת המסר בצורה הכי מדוייקת ואם הוא יכשל במשימה זו יקבל המאזין מסר שגוי, מעוות, מושחת ושקרי.

בסיפור הבשורה אנחנו פוגשים במסר המושלם ביותר – מסר הישועה, במוסר האולטימטיבי – אלוהים האב ובמתווך המושלם – ישוע המשיח. ישוע חוזר פעם אחר פעם, “תורתי אינה שלי כי אם של שולחי” (יוחנן ז’:16), וזאת כדי להעיד בפנינו שהוא רק מוסר את המסר שאלוהים האב קרא לו למסור. כל דבר שישוע אמר היה בהתאם לרצון אלוהים ולדברו, הוא לא בדה אף משפט מליבו וכל דבר שאמר התיישר עם המסר שקיבל משולחו.

בעידן בו אנו חיים קיימים מתווכחים רבים בעלי מסרים שונים ועלינו לעמוד על המשמר ולוודא שכל מסר שאנחנו מקבלים תואם ומתיישר עם המסר המרכזי שאלוהים האב מסר לנו באמצעות ישוע – המסר של הבשורה. אל תטעו, אף אחד לא ימסור לנו מסר מעוות ושקרי באופן גלוי, אלא בדרכים סמויות כך שלא נבחין ולא נוכל להתנגד. כשהמסר המוטעה ימצא את ביתו בתוכנו הוא יהפוך לחלק מדרך החשיבה שלנו ויעצב את הצורה בה נחיה. רבים מאיתנו מתהלכים כיום עם מסרים מעוותים ושקרים שנקלטו על ידינו והפכו למבצר בחיינו, מבצר המשפיע על ההליכה שלנו עם אלוהים והחיים שהוא מציע לנו דרך ישוע. החדשות הטובות הן שאלוהים נתן לנו את רוח הקודש, רוח האמת, ואת גבורת הרוח כדי שנוכל לגבור על שקרים אלו ולהסירם מחיינו. עלינו להתקרב ולהכיר את אלוהים כדי לזהות מסרים שגויים אלו. לבקש את כוחה של רוח הקודש להתגבר על תפיסות מוטעות אלו, ולהתחיל לאמץ הרגלים חדשים וחיובים. הרגלים של פנייה לדבר האמת ועמידה על המשמר בנוגע לכל דבר ומסר שנשלך לעברנו.

“היו ערים ועמדו על המשמר. אויבכם השטן משוטט כאירה שואג ומחפש לו לטרף משהו” (1 כיפא ה’:8)

מסרו של שאול באיגרתו אל טימותאוס חי ופועם גם עבורנו כיום לאור המציאות שבה אנו חיים. כעת הבחירה נמצאת בידיים שלכם האם תמשיכו הלאה בחייכם ותפנו מדבר אלוהים שמזהיר אתכם או שמא תשמעו ותעשו?

Do not be fooled

God gave all men a free will and a freedom to choose. Just as God gave Adam and Eve the right to choose whether to listen to His Word or to reject it, He is doing the same with us – will we listen to His Word or will we choose to remain ignorant?

The main message of Paul in the first letter to Timothy goes alongside one of Yeshua’s Messages to His disciples: Be alert and of sober mind! Paul is addressing this command with regards to protecting the true gospel that they have received from him. In his letter, he points out a few ways that the Ephesians can protect the gospel from being corrupted, twisted and protect themselves from all kind of distractions. He speaks many times of those who will come in to the congregation and lead the believers astray, and mentions a few examples of some that have already walked away.

In the same way, we are called to be alert with regards to protecting the true gospel. We’re facing war daily, a war for our souls – our thoughts, emotions and desires. We are constantly exposed to messages and experiences that contradict the message of the gospel and many times we take them in aware or unaware. Especially in our day and age, temptations abound, due to social media and technology. Paul warns the congregation of dangers that may come both from within the body of believers and from without. In this blog, we’ll concentrate on external influences.

The idea behind the media is to promote and convey a message or thought between two sides. There is a side that gives the message and the side that gets and takes the message. Between these two there is a medium that takes the message from one person to the other. It can be a visual (TV, the internet, books, magazines and more) or audio (words in everyday conversation, music, radio and more). The medium used to convey the message is just as important as the message itself: if the medium is faulty, even a good message can be twisted so that a false message is what is conveyed to recipients of the message.

In the story of the gospel we meet the perfect message: the gospel of salvation, the ultimate Giver of the message – God the father – and the perfect one to deliver the message to us – Yeshua. Yeshua says time and time again “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.” (John 7:16), to show us that he is delivering God the father’s message alone. All that Yeshua said was according to God’s will and Word, every word was aligned with God’s message.

In this age that we live in there are many mediators with different messages and we’re to be alert and keep on guard, making sure that every message that is given us aligns with the message that Yeshua gave – the gospel. No one will give you a twisted message in broad daylight; such messages are given in the dark so that we will not notice and so resist. If we take in the false message it will make its home in us and will affect the way we live. Many of us are walking with false and twisted messages that we’ve received and that have become a stronghold in our lives, this stronghold affects our relationship with God and the life He offers. But the good news is that God sent His Spirit, the spirit of truth and strength so that we may overcome these lies and take them out of our lives. We are to draw near to God and know Him and His Will in order to detect the false messages. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to help us overcome the lies and start creating new positive habits. Habits of turning to the Word of truth and keeping guard regarding every word or message that is being thrown our way.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

Paul’s message in the first letter to Timothy is so relevant to us today. Now we must make a choice: will we keep on living our lives away from God’s Word that warns us or will we listen and obey?
