Dear friends and partners,
Over the past few weeks, we launched an evacuation initiative in northern Israel for elderly residents and families with children with disabilities who have been living under daily rocket and drone fire. Because of your support, over 250 families were able to leave that reality, even if only for a few days, and come to a place where there is protection, quiet, and the ability to simply rest.
For many of them, this was the first time in weeks that they could sleep through the night without running to a shelter.
Here is a letter I received from those you have impacted.
"We, the senior residents of Kiryat Shmona, are writing this letter to you from our hotel, where we are finally able to take a deep breath. We want to thank you personally, from the bottom of our hearts, for your extraordinary and deeply moving generosity, which came to us just when we had nearly given up hope.
This past Pesach (Passover) holiday was not a holiday of freedom for us, but rather days under siege. While the rest of the country celebrated, we were trapped in our homes under active fire and unrelenting stress. We spent the holiday alone, with no help from the authorities, dealing with uncertainty and crippling fear in our homes, which for some time now have become the front line.
Your initiative to bring us out, right after the holiday, for a few nights of quiet in Jerusalem was nothing short of life-saving. We thank you for reaching out your hand at exactly the moment when our strength gave out. Because of you, we are entering this period between the Pesach holiday and the Memorial Days with renewed hope in our hearts.
Thank you to all of you and to everyone who made this possible. May we all know days of peace, security, and a safe return home soon."
Thank you for making this possible. Because of you, families who have been living under constant sirens were able, even if only for a few days, to sleep through the night and simply breathe again. This is what your support has made possible in the lives of these families.
