Shutting Down the PLO in the US

The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) office in Washington, DC has been closed due to the PA’s unwillingness to come to the negotiating table with Israel and its efforts to delegitimize Israel instead. Please pray that the mounting pressure on the PLO to work resume negotiations will succeed and soon. This is not only important because it benefits Israel, but because without negotiations, the corrupt terrorist regime (one branch of the PLO) in Gaza will continue to run rampant, contributing to a deteriorating humanitarian crisis in the strip. Also an issue is that without further negotiations, Fatah (the other branch of the PLO) will continue to pocket international aid without contributing to real progress, preferring the status quo and pursuing efforts to delegitimize Israel instead. More money has been invested in the PLO from international aid organizations than was invested in rebuilding all of Europe after WWII, so this lack of accountability that is due in part to a lack of negotiations is a major issue since very little of that money has actually been used for the benefit of the people it was intended to help.

The American Israel Public Affairs Commmitte (AIPAC) said in a statement that the closing of the PLO office in Washington “complies with legislation adopted by bipartisan congressional majorities. The PLO itself triggered the law’s required closing of the office by pursuing efforts at the International Criminal Court to isolate and delegitimize Israel.… For years, the PLO has placed obstacles in the path of peace and has now refused to enter negotiations with the Israelis or meet with American officials.… We urge the Palestinian leadership to return to the negotiating table with the Israelis and cease its efforts to delegitimize Israel in international forums.”
